Abstract

A survey conducted in 2021 collected data enabling reliable analyses of self-assessed job scope and competencies of Croatian librarians. The findings highlighted the importance of the following factors: type of library, level of education, number of employed librarians, and degree of managerial responsibility. More detailed analyses were carried out for the three largest groups of respondents based on the type of library they work in: public, school, and academic libraries. Croatian librarians most frequently perform information services and collection-related tasks, followed by circulation duties and participation in library management. In academic libraries, there is a greater share of activities related to information services, digitisation, and repositories. In school libraries, common activities include organising various events and using information technologies in daily work, such as creating websites. In public libraries, a wide range of work activities is represented, but due to a larger number of staff members, it is possible to distribute tasks so that not everyone performs every function. As a result, the average frequency of performing specific tasks is moderate or low.
