Abstract
Journals, especially national ones, must follow the development of scholarly publications and criteria that evaluate their quality. In addition to technical elements, transparency of the journal's editorial policies, transparency of the review process, visibility and indexing of journals, implementation of online editorial systems, alternative formats, availability of research results, availability of reviews, metric and altmetric indicators, etc. are increasingly important. Plan S requires a range of functionalities from the journals, to ensure the usability and reproducibility of content and research data. To achieve this, national journals must have systematic and sufficient funding ensured. The editors of the journal need to be educated on a regular basis in order to successfully follow the trends of scientific publishing development and adjust their policies.
