Abstract
Atomic nucleus is still a fundamental research topic, with many nuclear properties still eluding a global explanation. In order to familiarize high-school students with the topic, this workshop introduces the nuclide-chart through theoretical part, along with numerous examples. They should illustrate an insight in stable and radioactive nuclei properties and clear some of the misconceptions arisen from the topic popularity combined with lack of solid facts in general population. Practical part consists of alpha- and/or gamma- decay measurement in the lab, using the existing Institute equipement. The students should gain an insight in such a measurement, from preparation to data analysis, e.g. energy and intensity determination in a specific decay.
