Abstract

Tenth Symposium of the Croatian Radiation Protection Association (CRPA) with international participation gives us an opportunity to analyse and evaluate all ten symposia. The symposia were held first in Zagreb in two-year intervals (1992, 1994, 1996, 1998). Regularity of national symposia was interrupted by the organization of the Regional IRPA Congress in Dubrovnik 2001. The following two symposia (2003, 2005) were held in Stubičke Toplice Spa nearby Zagreb, while the Seventh Symposium moved to the Adriatic coast (Opatija, 2008) and was followed by two symposia in the city of Krk on the Krk Island (2011, 2013). Since 2011 the symposia are held in years between the world and European IRPA congresses. For each symposium the proceedings were prepared containing full papers of all presentations. The number of papers published per proceedings varied between 44 and 87, being 66 on average. The contributors have been mainly members of CRPA. However, authors from neighbouring countries and their societies (Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, Hungary, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Slovenia, Serbia, Romania, and also USA, Japan) have contributed to about 20 % of papers. On each symposium there were lectures devoted to special occasions, such as 100 years of radiation, 50 years of radiation protection in the region, accreditation and quality control issues, the World Year of Physics (2005) or the Fukushima nuclear accident (2011). The topical sections showed a broad range of interest of the radiation protection community in Croatia and also witnessed some changes in their priorities. Several topics have remained constantly present, such as radioecology, biological effects of radiation, radiation protection in medicine, public exposure, and dosimetry. In conclusion, symposia of CRPA with international participation represent a unique opportunity to scientists and practitioners of various profiles to exchange knowledge and experience in this interdisciplinary field of radiation protection in a stimulating international environment.
