Abstract
The dissertation presents the investigation of self-organization and physical properties of nickel nanoparticles within the dielectric matrix prepared by the simple method of sequential magnetron sputtering deposition of two alternating layers. We deposited several series of different multilayered thin films, with one deposition parameter varied in each series. A detailed structural characterization was performed using multiple complementary methods, while magnetic measurements were done on selected samples to gain insight into the functional properties and possible applications. The self-assembly mechanism of nanoparticle growth resulted in the uniform nanoparticle sizes and their regular arrangement in the 2D/3D lattice via the combination of diffusion and surface morphology effects. We studied the influence of certain deposition parameters including matrix type, Ni layer thickness, substrate temperature, matrix content in the mixed layers, and number of deposited layers on the nanoparticle shape, internal structure and size distribution, type of nanoparticle ordering in the lattices and the degree of their regularity. Using the magnetic measurements, we investigated the magnetic response of the formed nanoparticle lattices and its relation to the measured structural properties.
