Abstract
Biological removal of nitrogen compounds using microorganisms is a key process in many wastewater treatment plants. Representatives of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria and archaea belonging to genera such as Nitrosococcus, Nitrosomonas, Nitrosopumilus, as well as nitrite-oxidizing bacteria such as Nitrococcus, Nitrobacter, Nitrospira and Nitrospina proved to be extremely useful in removing nitrogen compounds. Denitrification in plants for biological wastewater treatment is carried out by genera such as Acinetobacter, Agrobacterium, Bacillus, Flavobacterium. This paper provides an overview of the microorganisms used in the biological treatment of wastewater loaded with nitrogen com
