Abstract
Composites of calcium phosphates and nanomaterials with antimicrobial properties are considered an effective approach for the prevention and treatment of infections caused by implantation. Silver nanoparticles are attracting attention due to their broad antibacterial activity and low potential to cause bacterial resistance. Although the biomimetic method for the preparation of calcium phosphates/silver nanoparticels composites is economical, ecological, and accepted as a “green“ method of preparation that enables the coating of implants with complex shapes, it has not yet been fully explored. For this reason, the biomimetic preparation of calcium phosphates composites with silver nanoparticles modified with different stabilizers (sodium bis(2˗ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate, poly(vinylpyrrolidone), and trisodium citrate) and of multicomponent calcium phosphates/silver nanoparticles composites with bovine serum albumin or chitosan was investigated in this work. The characterization showed a significant influence of silver nanoparticles, albumin and chitosan on the transformation of amorphous into crystalline precipitates and their morphology. In addition, calcium phosphates/silver nanoparticles composite coatings with/without albumin or chitosan were biomimetically prepared on differently etched titanium surfaces. The results showed a greater uniformity of the coatings on a rougher surface and an improvement in the wetting properties of the surfaces after coating.
