Abstract
Citizen science has emerged as a transformative approach that empowers the general public to engage in scientific research actively. Libraries, as pivotal community hubs, are uniquely positioned to facilitate and organize citizen science projects tailored to meet the needs of their users and the broader community. In recent years, working groups dedicated to citizen science in libraries have started to emerge globally, especially in Europe. Within LIBER Europe (Ligue des Bibliothèques Européennes de Recherche), the LIBER Citizen Science Working Group has been active since 2019, aiming to strengthen research libraries across Europe in the field of citizen science. This is the first working group in the world exclusively focused on citizen science in libraries. Similarly, within the European Citizen Science Association (ECSA), there are also working groups, one of which is Citizen Science and Universities, whose members include information science experts and librarians. Working groups like these are crucial because they provide specialised platforms for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and capacity-building, ensuring that libraries can play a key role in promoting and supporting citizen science initiatives within their communities. This abstract outlines the initiatives undertaken by the Zagreb Library Association (hereinafter ZLA) in promoting citizen science within Zagreb and Zagreb County, emphasizing its role in fostering collaboration, inclusivity, and accessibility in scientific endeavors.
