Abstract

Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the world by incidence and mortality, and is preceded by precancerous intraepithelial lesions associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. The aim of this study was to analyze the protein profile of cells depending on the stage of the precancerous intraepithelial lesion and the presence of HPV. In this study, the presence of HPV was determined on cervical swabs with precancerous intraepithelial lesions by polymerase chain reaction, and the protein profile was established by mass cytometry and immunocytochemistry. The protein profile of cervical biopsies was determined by immunohistochemistry. The results showed that mass cytometry was suitable for the successful analysis of the protein profile on cervical swabs. The expression of proteins Ck18, Ck8, CD63, CD71, KLF4, LRIG1, E-cadherin, Nanog, p53, Ck17, MCM2, MMP7, and CD29 differed with regard to the severity of the precancerous lesion and the presence of HPV.
